Celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026
Menstrual Hygiene Day is May 28, and it’s a particularly special day for us at PridePads Africa because it shines a light on our mission to ensure that no one is held back because they menstruate. Each day, we work toward this by providing biodegradable, affordable menstrual pads in rural Cameroon while offering menstrual health education and de‑stigmatization campaigns, with pads made locally by and for women to create livelihood and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Our work, and Menstrual Hygiene Day itself, serve as powerful reminders of the importance of menstrual health, dignity, and opportunity for everyone who menstruates, and this day has grown into a massive global movement over the past 10 years, all united around one mission: Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.
“Together” is the key component - no single person or organization can solve the menstruation-related challenges women and girls face alone. But together, we can.
Each year, Menstrual Hygiene Day creates a wave of attention—through media, events, and social campaigns—that pushes conversations about menstruation into the open and encourages governments, institutions, and communities to take real action.
This type of action is music to our ears. At PridePads Africa, our goal is simple and bold: to help create a world in which no one is held back because they menstruate. Through menstrual health education and eco-friendly pads produced in Cameroon, we support students so they can stay in school with confidence and dignity.
This Menstrual Hygiene Day, here are a few meaningful ways you can join us:
● Start the conversation.
Talk openly about periods with friends, family, colleagues, and in your community. Honest conversations help break down stigma and normalize menstruation.
● Advocate for progress.
Reach out to your local leaders and policy makers. Encourage them to support free period products in schools and public restrooms, remove taxes on menstrual supplies, and ensure menstrual health education is part of every student’s learning.
● Support the movement and PridePads Africa
Share our mission on social media, highlight Menstrual Hygiene Day in your workplace or faith community, or host a small gathering to talk about menstrual equity. If you’re able, consider supporting PridePads Africa and other period-friendly organizations financially.
Remember, May 28 is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a chance for all of us to turn global momentum into real change. Together, we can ensure that everyone who menstruates has the education, resources, and support they deserve, and move closer to a truly period-friendly world.
