Period Power: Supporting Girls’ Education and Sustainable Menstruation

Period Power: Supporting Girls’ Education and Sustainable Menstruation

PridePads Africa is excited to announce our 2025 end-of-year campaign, Period Power: Supporting Girls’ Education with Sustainable Menstruation.

Today, we kindly invite you, our valued supporters, to join us in reaching our $75,000 fundraising goal for Period Power: Supporting Girls’ Education with Sustainable Menstruation. Your contribution is deeply appreciated and vital to supporting PridePads Africa’s mission to provide biodegradable menstrual pads, menstrual health education, and economic empowerment to girls and women in Cameroon.

Together, we can help break the barriers of stigma and period poverty - ensuring that menstruation is never a barrier to education or opportunity.

This year, we are focusing on empowering girls and women with knowledge about their bodies through medically accurate information. Menstrual health education seminars and campaigns - like those conducted by PridePads Africa - are often the only robust and medically accurate menstrual education students receive. Our goal is to continue to deliver this critical information to girls and women in Cameroon. In addition to school visits, PridePads Africa engages community groups, many of which are composed of local mothers who have not received menstrual education themselves.

An additional priority is ensuring that menstruation is not a barrier to education, work, or life. For example, while conducting menstrual health education seminars in Ngaoundéré-area schools, the PridePads team has found that many female students miss an average of five to seven days of school per month due to their period. This equates to missing 20% of total instruction time annually.

PridePads Africa is also proud to announce the grand opening of its new Free Period Pantry located in front of the YWCA Boulder County at 2222 14th St. Boulder, CO 80302.

Inspired by the Little Free Library model, the pantry will run on a simple principle: “Take what you need — with pride.” The period pantry will provide menstrual products like pads, tampons, and more, for anyone in need, anytime. We encourage community members to donate products directly to the pantry to keep the shelves stocked, ensuring ongoing access for those who need it most.

This local partnership brings our global mission home—promoting dignity, sustainability, and community care.

Finally, we know that menstrual health and hygiene are crucial steps on the road to gender equality. PridePads provides sustainable pads that are better for women’s bodies and better for the environment. (PridePads pads biodegrade in ~90 days versus commercial pads that take 500-800 years.)

Supporting the PridePads Mission is a small commitment that makes a significant impact. A donation of $24 (the cost of a restaurant lunch) ensures that students can stay in school during their period.

Recurring donations help even more.

  • $5/month or $72/year will cover an annual supply of pads for 3 students.
  • $10/month or $120/year will cover an annual supply of pads for 5 students.
  • $24/month or $288/year will cover an annual supply of pads for 12 students.
